Ik ben stil omdat de wereld te veel geluid maakt

I’m quiet because the world is makinng too much noise
2020

2021 Thights, metal frame, stones from someones garden in Laeken.

This work is a large beige nylon stocking patchwork hanging from a metal oxidised structure. Long tubes are dangling from the patchwork piece. Within these tubes, stones are laying inside of them, pulling the whole structure down. It is not moving, it is still as if the world has stopped. There is a double sensation of weightlessness and a gravitational pull.

The aim is to visualise the feeling of inhibition and to let the work tell Lola’s own personal story, but also let it tell someone else their own story.

If we go deeper into the analysis of the feeling of inhibition, we discover that it is about heavy bur- dens in life and the weight that comes with them. It is also about being able to take those heavy weights in your arms and experience and interrogate them before they fall into the dooms world where they might take you with them.

It is about expectations that are left unanswered. At times there might be emotions raging through your body you can’t explain and you don’t know what they will do or where they will go, though you do have an expectation about how they could behave, how you can behave. This expectation however will never be answered and you know that very well.
