Who Am I?

I have been searching for an answer to the question "Who am I?" by looking into prehistoric art and more specifically abstract cave paintings. The theory about these abstract cave paintings is that they are a direct visualisation of images our brain produces and lets us see. These images are closely connected to our memories.

I used a black and white dutch newspaper and teared out the pages with headlines that represents thoughts I have and that explains my view on who I think I am and my view on life.

I then made black ink lino prints on those pieces of newspaper. The images I printed are a visualisation of the chosen headline but are hiding and interrupting the text that accompanies the headline.

Line Studies

‘Line Studies’ is an investigation into the visuality of the subconscious mind. It is mostly inspired by prehistoric rituals and artworks as they were mainly making work based on images from their subconsciousness.
I started noticing that right before I would fall asleep I would see these lines and shapes and they would be different depending on how much noise there was in the room. Then one day when I was sitting outside enjoying the sun with my eyes closed I started seeing those lines again. I decided to try and draw them as they were so chaotic yet very simplistic and I was just captivated by them. So I drew them with my eyes closed to get them as accurate as possible.
